First edition printed 1951. A third edition, pub. 1969, mentioned by Dr. Davis, has not been seen by the present author. On p.20, the book includes a chart prepared by Col. William M. Wilder from data said to be, in 1944, in the hands of Mr. Harry H. Wilder of Reading, England, giving the descent of Thomas mentioned above, and also a descent to Edward and Francis Wilder, immigrants, respectively, to Virginia and Maryland.

Wilder, Edwin M., M.D., Book of the Wilders, A Further Contribution by Enlargement, Extension and Correction, 2nd Printing (Goshen, IN: Justin E. Wilder, 1976). First printed 1963. The author was grand nephew of Rev. Moses Wilder. Gives ancestry as Nicholas -> John -> John -> John of Nunhide -> Thomas of Shiplake. An introductory page by the publisher, Justin E. Wilder, remarks, "Elsewhere, the error was copied from the old Wilder book, leaving out one John and confusing Thomas of Shiplake with Thomas of Sulham." Justin Wilder notes that Shiplake Court belonged to the Plowden family until 1689, and mentions the circa 1620 will of Thomas Wilder of Shiplake, yeoman, and the deeds concerning his property. The book includes the chart prepared by Col. William M. Wilder.

Elias Wilder born 1765 in Killingly, CT. The descent given from Nicholas to Thomas of Lancaster, MA appears to derive from Col. William M. Wilder's chart, and is said to agree with Justin Wilder.

Howard, Joseph Jackson, LL.D., Maltravers Herald Extraordinary, and Crisp, Frederick Arthur, eds., Visitation of England and Wales (Privately printed, 1894), Vol. 2, pp. 127-8. An article, "Wilder of Purley Hall, and Sulham, co. Berks," shows arms and gives descent and family details from John Wilder (d. 1835), son of Henry Wilder. The purpose of a visitation was to determing that those found using arms had a right to bear them.
Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry Including American Families with British Ancestry (London: Burke's Peerage Ltd., 1939), Vol. III, pp. 2437 & 2935. An article, "Wilder of Purley Hall and Sulham," mentions purchase of Nunhide by Thomas Wilder in 1632. Gives descent from Henry Wilder (d. 1755), calling him "of Nunhide, only son and heir of John Wilder, of Nunhide." No mention of Nicholas. In the American section, an article about Brig. Gen. Wilbur Elliott Wilder (b. 1856) gives descent from the immigrant Thomas Wilder of Lancaster, MA, calling him great grandson of Nicholas and referring to Burke's Landed Gentry, 1906. Another article, about Russell Morse Wilder, of Rochester, MN, claims descent from the immigrant Edward Wilder of Hingham, MA, and his mother Martha.
