• 13 ii. William Markham (#6725) was born before 1785. William died probably in 1808 in Campbell Co, TN, at 23 years of age. He married Ann (Markham). (Ann (Markham) is #8945.) Ann was born probably before 1790. In 1815 Ann was named as the previous owner of property in a survey for Micajah Cross of 17 acres on Buffaloe Creek in Campbell Co, TN.⁽²⁾

  Although there is no direct evidence to connect Ann to William Markham (nor, in fact, any that he was ever married), widowhood seems the most likely explanation of how she came into possession of property in Campbell County.

  William's name was on a tax roll in 1805 in Anderson Co, TN.⁽³⁾ William was probably a resident in Campbell Co, TN when it was created in 1806 from Anderson County. William's estate was probated in 1808 in Campbell Co, TN.⁽⁴⁾

  He might be the same as William Markham who was on a tax list in Franklin Co, VA in 1787.

  As he hasn't been found in earlier records of Tennessee, he might be the same as William Markham who was on a tax list in 1805 in Franklin Co, GA.

  In the 1830 Census, Abner was listed as a head of household in Jackson Co, AL.⁽²³⁾ He was in his 50s, with a woman in her 30s, a young man 15-19, a boy 10-14, two boys 5-9, and a boy under age 5.

  It would seem this might be the same man as Abner Markham, the 1787 taxpayer of Franklin Co. VA and 1790 resident of Burke Co. NC, but there's at least a nine year age discrepancy. If the taxpayer were age 31 rather than 21, he might be the father of this man. Indeed, this may be the case, as in 1790 Abner Marcum of Burke Co. NC appeared to have as many as eight children, including five boys under age 16.

  He could very well be the same as Abner Markham, the age 16 and over taxpayer in Lee Co. VA in 1795.

  And he might be Abner Markham who was age 26-44 in the 1810 census of Green Co. KY.

  He could very well be related to Abner Markham, the War of 1812 veteran, who was in White Co. TN in 1820.

27. Abner³ Markham (White Co.² Marckhaum, Tennessee¹) (#6000) was born in Virginia about 1795.⁽³⁷⁾ He could be related to Abner Markham, the 1787 taxpayer of Franklin Co. VA, or to Abner Markham who was age 26-44 in the 1810 census of Green Co. KY, or to Abner Markham who was in Bedford Co. TN in 1820. Abner died 28 Jan 1874 in Bexar, Marion Co, AL, at 78 years of age.⁽³⁸⁾

He married twice. He married Sarah Franks March 1817 in White Co, TN.⁽³⁹⁾ (Sarah Franks is #6001.) He married Mary (Markham) around 1844 in Bull Mountain, Itawamba Co, MS. (Mary (Markham) is #6002.)

Abner "volunteered at Sparta, White County, Tennessee on 1 October 1814 for 6 months. He was a private in company of Capt. Daniel Newman in 3rd regiment of Tennessee volunteers commanded by Colonel Henderson."⁽⁴⁰⁾ At the time of his enlistment, he was 5 feet tall, about 130 lbs, rather dark complected, black hair, black eyes.⁽⁴¹⁾ "He marched from Sparta to Nashville thence to Orleans by water, was in all the paramount battles at Orleans, and continued there until the end of the war."⁽⁴²⁾ He was "honorably discharged on line between Tenn. and Alabama about 31 March 1815."⁽⁴³⁾

In the 1840 Census, William was listed as a head of household in Cannon Co, TN.⁽¹⁰⁶⁾ He was in his 30s. In his household was a woman in her 20s, an old woman in her 60s, a girl 10-14, two boys 5-9, and a boy and two girls under age 5. Two persons were engaged in agriculture.

William Markum wrote his will before his death in 1842.⁽¹⁰⁷⁾ His will mentioned his wife Patience Davis Marcum, three sons, and four daughters; it was witnessed by Bartlett Marcum.
