1. Sir John¹ Markham of Sedgebrook,⁽¹⁾ son of Sir John Markham and Milicent de Brandon, birth date unknown. See his father's family for more information.

He married Margaret Leke.⁽²⁾ Margaret⁽³⁾ was the daughter of Sir Simon Leke of Cotham and Joan Talbot.

Around 1444 he was appointed Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench in the 22nd year of the reign of Henry VI. His patent was renewed in 1461 or 1462 in the first year of the reign of Edward IV.⁽⁴⁾

He married Anne Heaveringham.⁽²⁰⁾ Anne was born. Her "ancestor, Gulfride de Heaveringham, was Lord of Heaveringham in the reign of King Canute (A.D. 1020)."⁽²¹⁾ Anne⁽²²⁾ was the daughter of Sir George Heaveringham of Ketteringham.

Markham wrote, "There is a handsome monument in the church still in good repair, with the father in magisterial robes, and his son behind him in armour, with a love-lock falling from his head, and fastened to his belt; both kneeling in the attitude of prayer, with the following inscription: 'Here lye Interred ye bodies of Ellis Markham Esquier, Justice of peace and quorum in ye countie of Nottingham, and Gervase Markham, his sonne, Captain of ye horse in ye said countie; who long served her Majestie in her warres with extraordinarie proofe in Irelande and ye lowe Countries. Jervase Markham depated this life the 17th Daye of Januarie, 1636.'"

"He was Knight of the Shire for Nottinghamshire in three parliaments, the second of Mary, and the first and second of Philip and Mary."⁽²⁹⁾

He married Mary Yetzwert 24 May 1576 in Sunbury On Thames, London, England.⁽⁴⁰⁾ Mary was born probably before 1559. Mary⁽⁴¹⁾ was the daughter of Nicasius Yetzwert.

Rev. D. F. Markham's chart calls him Richard Markham of Newboe Abbey.⁽⁴²⁾

His body was interred under a stone by the south wall of the chancel of the church in North Luffenham, Rutland, England.⁽⁶⁵⁾ In 1862, but more recently removed, the stone bore this inscription, "Here lyeth Col. Henry Markham, who was very instru'tal in ye happy restauration of K. Charles ye 2d, & was one of ye 48 gentlemen of ye Privy Chamber to ye said King of ever blessed memory." He married Hester Weaver. Hester was the daughter of Christopher Weaver.

  Hester died after 1673 at age unknown.
