Albemarle Burke Orange Pasquotank Wake

Albemarle County

1663 one of three original counties.

1670 Albemarle District subdivided into Chowan, Currituck, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties.

1693 and 1694 - Anthony Markam and Joy Markam mentioned in unidentified records.
1739 Albemarle District discontinued.

Burke County

1777 created from Rowan.

Abner Marcum moved from Franklin County, VA to Burke County between 1787 and 1790.

Orange County

1752 created from Bladen, Granville, Johnston.

John Markham of Caroline Co. VA brought his family to Orange County around 1764. They adopted the surname spelling "Marcom."
1770 spawned Wake.

Pasquotank County

1670 created from Albemarle.

1693 and 1694 - Anthony Markam and Joy Markam mentioned in unidentified records of Albemarle.

Stokes County

1789 created from Surry.

1800 census listed Markams Thomas (45+), John (26-44), and William (26-44).
1800 Dec 30 Thomas Marcum married Mary Wilson. They later moved to Kentucky and settled in Clay County.

Wake County

1770 created from Cumberland, Johnston, Orange.

Samuel Marcom of the Orange County family was in Wake County before 1790.
