In the 1810 Census, John was listed as a head of household in Stokes Co, NC.(5) He was age 45+, his wife 26-44, with a boy and a girl 10-15 and three boys and two girls under age 10.

In the 1820 Census, John was listed as a head of household in Clay Co, KY.(6) He and his wife were age 45+. The children of 1810 were still in the household - a boy 18-25, a girl 16-25, and two boys and a girl 10-15. New were a boy and a girl under age 10.

John Markum of Stokes Co. NC had the following child:

He married Mary (Polly) Wilson 30 Dec 1800 in Stokes Co, NC.(10) (Mary (Polly) Wilson is #5833.) Mary was born circa 1780 in North Carolina. Mary(11) was the daughter of Philip Wilson and Rebecca Herd. In 1811 her father, Philip Wilson, and two other Wilsons, John and Jonathan, appeared on the tax list of Clay Co, KY.

27 April 1809 Thomas was taxed for himself and one horse in Green Co, KY.(12) Taxed on the same date was Barnet Marcum.

In the 1810 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Green Co, KY.(13) He was age 26, with a young woman 16-25, a girl under age 10, and two women age 45+.

8 July 1810 Thomas was taxed for himself and one horse in Green Co, KY.(14) In the 1820 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household age 26-44 in Clay Co, KY.(15) In his household was a woman 26-44, two young men 16-25, one young woman 16-25, one boy 16-17, two boys 10-15, and four boys and one girl under age 10. Five persons were engaged in agriculture.

In the 1830 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Clay Co, KY.(16) He and his wife were in their 50s, with two boys and a girl 15-19, three boys 10-14, and a boy and two girls 5-9.

In the Census of 1850, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Owsley Co, KY.(17)

He married twice. He married Edy Baker after 4 Nov 1822 (lic. date) in Clay Co, KY. (Edy Baker is #8578.) Edy was born between 1801 and probably 1805. He married C. (Marcum). (C. (Marcum) is #8579.) C. was born circa 1805 in Kentucky.

Wilson applied for a marriage license to wed Edy Baker 4 Nov 1822 in Clay Co, KY.(40) In the 1830 Census, Wilson was listed as a head of household in Monroe Co, IN.(41) He and his wife were in their 20s. In their household were a man in his 60s, two girls 15-19, a girl 10-14, a boy and a girl 5-9, and a boy and a girl under age 5. The author believes that the younger man was head of household because in the subsequent 1850 Missouri census his daughter was born in Indiana. The identity of the older man is undetermined; it it entirely possible, of course, that his name also was Wilson Markam, although none such is known in prior records.

In the Census of 1850, Wilson was listed as a farmer and head of household in Cedar Co, MO.(42)

In the Census of 1860, John was listed as a farmer and head of household with real estate of $3500 in circa 1821.(88)
