My gg-grandfather was Arthur Marcum, who was in Gallatin County, Kentucky in the 1820s and 1830s. His widow was found in 1840 in Bartholomew County, Indiana, where his descendants remained until around the turn of the century, when some moved west. I've put up here a three generation report on Arthur Marcum's Descendants. Arthur married twice in Gallatin County, and I've put up reports of his in-laws, the Furnish and Robertson families.
A number of other Marcums or Markhams were in Gallatin County, Kentucky from time to time, beginning in the early 1800s. There's a combined report on these other early Marcums and Markhams of Gallatin Co. KY.
I've made another page of Arthur Marcum/Markhams Here and There whom I found in various records and have collected here as candidate relatives of Arthur of Gallatin Co. KY. Further information about any of them will be gratefully received.
Some more Arthurs turn up in a line traced back to Thomas Markham, Virginia Colonist. There's a chance some undiscovered brother from that family went off to Kentucky.
While hunting for my gggf, who turned out to be Arthur of Gallatin County, I collected a lot of information about other Marcum and Markham families, beginning with immigrants to Virginia and the spread of their descendants throughout the South. I'm in a continuing process of putting the results up here on this web page. I've summarized my research on Marcum/Markhams of Virginia and Marcum/Markhams of Kentucky. See my Place Index for my research in other states.
To organize the early colonists, I've prepared a Geographical Index and Chronological Index of individuals and families associated with events, linking into the reports described above. There's also an Index to Some U.S. Census Records
I've also done some Research in Old England.
I've prepared a combined every name index of all of the reports by copying the indexes from the end of each report into a single page. There's also a list of surnames that link into the index file. Once you find a name in the index, the link will pop you right to him in his page. There are separate indexes for the American and English branches.
visitors have come to my Marcum page since July 12, 1999.
