1. Walter¹ Joyce⁽¹⁾ (#1428) was born circa 1650.

He married Elizabeth Low in or near, Marshfield, MA.⁽²⁾ (Elizabeth Low is #1429.) Elizabeth was born circa 1650. Elizabeth⁽³⁾ was the daughter of John Low of Marshfield and Elizabeth Howland.

Although records of his origin, birth, siblings, marriage, and death have not yet been located, the births of seven children are registered at Marshfield, Massachusetts, between 1676 and 1693.

Walter Joyce and Elizabeth Low had the following children:

• 2 i. Lucretia² Joyce (#2311) was born in Marshfield, MA October 3, 1676. Lucretia died January 1, 1717/8 at 41 years of age. She married Samuel Silvester October 9, 1700 in Marshfield, MA.⁽⁴⁾ (Samuel Silvester is #2310.) Samuel was born circa 1675. Birth, marriage, and death dates from Transcript 27 Nov 1929, #8279, reported by a descendant of sister Bathsheba Joyce.

• 4 iii. Mary Joyce (#2317) was born in Marshfield, MA November 12, 1682. Mary died June 28, 1778 at 95 years of age. She married James Gorham September 29, 1709.⁽⁵⁾ (James Gorham is #2316.) James was born circa 1680. Birth date from VR of Marshfield MA. Birth, marriage, death dates from Tran script 27 Nov 1929, #8279.

• 5 iv. Elizabeth Joyce (#2319) was born in Marshfield, MA March 24, 1683/4. She married David Hercey May 12, 1721.⁽⁶⁾ (David Hercey is #2318.) David was born circa 1680. Birth date from VR of Marshfield MA. Birth and marriage dates from Transcri pt 27 Nov 1929, #8279.

• 6 v. Abigail Joyce (#2307) was born in Marshfield, MA October 26, 1687. Abigail died circa 1700 in probably, Marshfield, MA. Birth in Vital Records of Marshfield MA, pub. in "The Mayflower Descendant" V.5, p.236. Mayf. Desc. V.11 p.39, from records of the First Church in Marshfield, includes her with the 6 other Joyce children being baptized Aug 21, 1698. Transcript 27 Nov 1929 #8279, a descendant of her sister Bathsheba lists the birth dates as from the Marshfield VR, and says of Abigail that she "probably died young." "Descendants of William Sherman of Marshfield MA" by Mary Lovering Holman, pub. in 1936, on p.36 says Joseph Lapham b.1709 married Abigail Joyce b.1702, dau. of Walter and Elizabeth (Low) Joyce. That birth date doesn't fit this dau. of Walt. & Eliz., who would be, from the Marshfield VR, 22 years older than Joseph Lapham.

• 7 vi. Seth Joyce (#2314) was born in Marshfield, MA July 26, 1691. Seth died September 18, 1750 at 59 years of age. He married Rachel Sherman November 9, 1726.⁽⁷⁾ (Rachel Sherman is #2315.) Rachel was born April 29, 1702 in Marshfield, MA. Rachel was the daughter of Ebenezer Sherman and Margaret Decrow. Birth date in VR of Marshfield MA. Birth, marriage, death dates in Transcript 27 Nov 1929, #8279.

• 8 vii. Bathsheba Joyce (#2313) was born in Marshfield, MA January 17, 1692/3. She married Ebenezer Mahurin December 12, 1718 in Marshfield, MA.⁽⁸⁾ (Ebenezer Mahurin is #2312.) Ebenezer was born circa 1690.

3. Thomas² Joyce (Walter¹) (#714) was born in Marshfield, MA April 19, 1679. Thomas died January 1755 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA, at 75 years of age.

He married Elizabeth Bent October 31, 1701 in Marshfield, MA.⁽⁹⁾ (Elizabeth Bent is #715.) Elizabeth was born 1673 in Sudbury, Middlesex Co, MA.⁽¹⁰⁾ Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Bent and Elizabeth Bourne. Birth date from V.R. of Marshfield MA in "Mayflower Descendant" v.5 p.236. Will {from Plymouth Co. Probate Book 13, seen on film SL#0551540} written 26 Sep 1744, gives equal cash and movable estate to "my three dau. Abigail Lapham, Lydia Joyce & Naomy Joyce"; while Lydia and Naomy unmarried, to have use of westerly end of dwelling house, use of "sellar", apples from trees, a cow and a swine; with that reservation, all housing and lands in Marshfield to sole excr, son John. Wit. James, Hannah, James Jr. Sprague. Probated Jan.25, 1755. Settlement to Joseph Lapham Jr. and Abigail, Timothy and Lydia Silvester, Naomi Joyce from excr. John Joyce on Mar. 24, 1755; estate 130 pds.

Thomas Joyce and Elizabeth Bent had the following children:

9. John³ Joyce (Thomas², Walter¹) (#2322) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA October 2, 1702.⁽¹³⁾ John died November 29, 1762 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA, at 60 years of age.⁽¹⁴⁾

He married Abigail Ford March 13, 1728/9 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽¹⁵⁾ (Abigail Ford is #2485.) Abigail was born circa 1705.

John Joyce and Abigail Ford had the following children:

• 14 ii. John Joyce (#4057) was born probably before 1736. He married Faith Stephens Sept. 9, 1756 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽¹⁶⁾ (Faith Stephens is #4075.) Faith was born before May 8, 1737 (chr date). Faith was the daughter of William Stephens and Faith (Stephens). She was christened May 8, 1737 at the First Church in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽¹⁷⁾

• 15 iii. Thomas Joyce (#6525) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA July 16, 1738.⁽¹⁸⁾

10. Abigail³ Joyce (Thomas², Walter¹)⁽²¹⁾ (#357) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA August 2, 1705.⁽²²⁾ Abigail died April 9, 1789 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA, at 83 years of age.⁽²³⁾

She married Joseph Lapham August 26, 1729 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽²⁴⁾ (Joseph Lapham is #356.) Joseph was born April 26, 1709 in Scituate, MA. Joseph⁽²⁵⁾ was the son of Joseph Lapham and Abigail Sherman. Joseph died 1758 in probably, Marshfield, MA, at 49 years of age.

Abigail Joyce and Joseph Lapham had the following children:

• 18 i. Joseph⁴ Lapham (#3383). He married Lucy Shurtleff Mar 17, 1768. (Lucy Shurtleff is #3386.)

• 19 ii. Nathaniel Lapham (#3387). He married Mary (Lapham). (Mary (Lapham) is #3390.)

  He was christened June 12, 1748. He is said to have had several daughters.

11. Lydia³ Joyce (Thomas², Walter¹) (#2327) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA August 20, 1712.⁽²⁶⁾

She married Timothy Silvester April 10, 1751 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽²⁷⁾ (Timothy Silvester is #2484.) Timothy was born circa 1718 in maybe, Marshfield, MA.⁽²⁸⁾ Timothy was the son of Joseph Silvester. Timothy died in 1779 at 61 years of age. An inventory of Timothy's estate was taken 9 July 1779 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽²⁹⁾ Timothy's estate was probated 31 Jan 1780 in Plymouth Co, MA.⁽³⁰⁾

She was christened September 20, 1713 at the First Church in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽³¹⁾

Timothy Silvester and wife Lydia signed aquittal of distribution of Thomas Joyce's estate on Mar. 24, 1755. She was unmarried when the will was written in 1744.

Lydia Joyce and Timothy Silvester had the following child:

• 22 i. Timothy⁴ Silvester (#2494) was born in Marshfield, MA May 26, 1753.⁽³²⁾

13. Abiah⁴ Joyce (John³, Thomas², Walter¹) (#4055) was born probably before 1732.

She married Thomas Lapham Feb. 22, 1749/0 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽³³⁾ (Thomas Lapham is #3206.) Thomas was born Sept. 11, 1728 in Massachusetts.⁽³⁴⁾ Thomas was the son of David Lapham and Rebecca King.

Abiah Joyce and Thomas Lapham had the following children:

• 23 i. Ann⁵ Lapham (#6432) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA December 30, 1750.⁽³⁵⁾ She married Asher Sprague Feb 25, 1793 in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽³⁶⁾ (Asher Sprague is #6486.) Asher was born maybe around 1750.

• 24 ii. Israel Lapham (#6433) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA October 18, 1752.⁽³⁷⁾

• 25 iii. Ruth Lapham (#6434) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA April 30, 1754.⁽³⁸⁾

• 26 iv. Abigail Lapham (#6435) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA March 28, 1757.⁽³⁹⁾

• 27 v. Thomas Lapham (#3209) was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Co, MA February 15, 1759.⁽⁴⁰⁾ Conflicting evidence states that Thomas was born Feb. 15, 1759 in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁴¹⁾

• 28 vi. Charles Lapham (#6487) was born in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA March 14, 1765.⁽⁴²⁾ He married Temperance Clapp June 18, 1795 in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁴³⁾ (Temperance Clapp is #6488.)

• 29 vii. Michael Lapham (#6489) was born in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA June 28, 1767.⁽⁴⁴⁾ He married Sarah Cushing May 19, 1793 in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁴⁵⁾ (Sarah Cushing is #6490.) Sarah was born maybe around 1767.

• 30 viii. William Lapham (#6453) was born March 29, 1779.⁽⁴⁶⁾ William died Sept 30, 1859 in Littleton, Middlesex Co, MA, at 80 years of age.⁽⁴⁷⁾ He married Sally Randall Jan 26, 1805.⁽⁴⁸⁾ (Sally Randall is #6452.) Sally was born before June 11, 1780 (chr date). Sally was the daughter of John Randall and Sarah Eames. She was christened June 11, 1780 at the First Unitarian Church in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁴⁹⁾

  Until after 1812 William was said to be a master mariner.⁽⁵⁰⁾ William settled in Littleton, Middlesex Co, MA before 1815.⁽⁵¹⁾

16. Nathaniel⁴ Joyce (John³, Thomas², Walter¹)⁽⁵²⁾ (#4076) was born 1742.

He married Elizabeth Curtis 18 Jan 1764. (Elizabeth Curtis is #4077.) Elizabeth was born in Scituate, MA.

Nathaniel Joyce and Elizabeth Curtis had the following children:

• 31 i. Abigail⁵ Joyce (#4078) was born after 1764.

• 32 ii. Samuel Joyce (#4101) was born after 1765.

20. John⁴ Lapham (Abigail³ Joyce, Thomas², Walter¹)⁽⁵³⁾ (#178) was born circa 1731. John died August 18, 1804 in Buckfield, ME, at 73 years of age.

He married Bathsheba (Bersheba) Eames October 31, 1754 in Marshfield, or Rochester, MA. (Bathsheba (Bersheba) Eames is #179.) Bathsheba was born circa 1731 in maybe, Marshfield, MA. Bathsheba⁽⁵⁴⁾ was the daughter of Joshua Eames and Abigail Doggett. Bathsheba died August 17, 1806 in Buckfield, ME, at 75 years of age. "History of Buckfield ME" by Cole and Whitman, and "History of Woodstock ME" by Wm. B. Lapham, both give name as Bathsheba, but "Vital Records of Rochester MA" NEHGS gives name at marriage and birth of children as Bersheba. "V.R. of Marshfield MA", 1970, mentions Bathsheba 'of this town' in intent, and Bersheba 'of this town' at marriage.

John Lapham and Bathsheba (Bersheba) Eames had the following children:

• 34 ii. Abigail Lapham (#651) was born before May 8, 1757 (chr date). She married John Hussey. (John Hussey is #3372.) John died 1812.

  She was christened May 8, 1757 in Rochester, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁵⁶⁾

• 35 iii. Bathsheba (Bershaba) Lapham (#89) was born before May 13, 1759 (chr date). Bathsheba died June 30, 1832 at 73 years of age.⁽⁵⁷⁾ Her remains were interred in Turner Cemetery, Buckfield, ME.⁽⁵⁸⁾ She married Jesse Turner May 3, 1780 in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁵⁹⁾ (Jesse Turner is #88.) Jesse was born May 14, 1744 in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁶⁰⁾ Jesse was the son of Joshua Turner and Sarah Winslow. Jesse died March 13, 1821 at 76 years of age.⁽⁶¹⁾ His remains were interred in Turner Cemetery, Buckfield, ME.⁽⁶²⁾ Jesse moved with his family around 1797 to Buckfield.⁽⁶³⁾

  She was christened May 13, 1759 in Rochester, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁶⁴⁾

• 36 iv. Betsey Lapham (#3364) was born Apr 5, 1761.

• 37 v. Naomi Lapham (#3365) was born Mar 20, 1763. Naomi died June 11, 1825 in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA, at 62 years of age.⁽⁶⁵⁾ She married Lt. Lot Ford. (Lt. Lot Ford is #3368.)

• 38 vi. Bethiah Lapham (#3369) was born July 18, 1765.

• 39 vii. Thomas Lapham (#3370) was born July 9, 1767.

• 40 viii. Abijah Lapham (#694) was born in Scituate?, MA August 15, 1769. Abijah died March 1, 1847 in Woodstock, ME, at 77 years of age. He married twice. He married Sarah Hartwell Nov 14, 1790 in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁶⁶⁾ (Sarah Hartwell is #695.) Sarah died 1801 in Buckfield, Oxford Co, ME. He married Abigail Buck before 1803.⁽⁶⁷⁾ (Abigail Buck is #723.) Abigail was born 5 Feb 1779. Abigail was the daughter of John Buck and Abigail Irish. "History of Buckfield ME" by Cole and Whitman, and "History of Woodstock ME" by Wm. B. Lapham, agree on birth date and place in Scituate MA, but he isn't in "Vital Records of Scituate MA" NEHGS.

• 41 ix. Bela Lapham (#3379) was born July 2, 1773.

21. Jesse⁴ Lapham (Abigail³ Joyce, Thomas², Walter¹) (#2320) was born in probably, Marshfield, MA circa 1735.

He married Mercy Randall Nov. 15, 1762 in Pembroke, Plymouth Co, MA.⁽⁶⁸⁾ (Mercy Randall is #2321.) Mercy was born Aug. 8, 1740 in maybe, Marshfield, MA. Mercy was the daughter of James Randall and Ruth Magoon.

Jesse Lapham and Mercy Randall had the following children:

• 47 vi. Betsey Lapham (#6475) was born in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA July 18, 1775.⁽⁷⁸⁾ She married Luther Lewis.⁽⁷⁹⁾ (Luther Lewis is #6481.) Luther was born around 1775.

• 48 vii. Lydia Lincoln Lapham (#6482) was born in Scituate, Plymouth Co, MA Dec 1, 1777.⁽⁸⁰⁾ Lydia died unmarried June 12, 1846 at 68 years of age.⁽⁸¹⁾

• 49 viii. Prince Lapham⁽⁸²⁾ (#6483). Prince died May 16, 1838 at 57 years of age.⁽⁸³⁾ He married Bethiah (Lapham).⁽⁸⁴⁾ (Bethiah (Lapham) is #6484.) Bethiah was born around 1780.

• 50 ix. Nathaniel Lapham (#6485) was born June 8, 1783.⁽⁸⁵⁾ Nathaniel died March 31, 1842 at 58 years of age.⁽⁸⁶⁾
