He married Mary (Hawes). (Mary (Hawes) is #9046.) Mary died April 21, 1676 in Dorchester, Suffolk Co, MA.(9)

He married Sarah Bird December 3, 1736 in Dorchester, Suffolk Co, MA.(27) (Sarah Bird is #9053.) Sarah was born around 1707 (if same age as spouse).

Stephen Hawes and Sarah Bird had the following children:

He married Sarah Niles November 6, 1744 in Braintree, Suffolk Co, MA.(33) (Sarah Niles is #185.) Sarah was born May 31, 1717 in Braintree, Suffolk Co, MA.(34) Sarah was the daughter of John Niles and Margaret Nash.

October 20, 1744 in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA John registered his intent to marry Sarah Niles.(35)

Fifth Generation

22. Elisha5 Hawes (John4, Richard3, Obediah2, Richard1) (#92) was born in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA February 5, 1747/8.(41) Elisha died in 1797 in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA, at 49 years of age.

He married Sarah Wentworth March 22, 1782 in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA. (Sarah Wentworth is #93.) Sarah was born December 21, 1759 in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA. Sarah was the daughter of Amariah Wentworth and Rebeckah Shepard. Sarah died 1821 in probably, Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA, at 61 years of age.

He served with the rank of sergeant in Capt. William Bent's company, Col. John Greaton's regiment, Massachusetts troops, during the Revolution. He also served in Capt. Child's company under Col. Wells.(42)

In the 1790 Census, Elisha was listed as a head of household with a boy under 16 and 4 women in Stoughton, Suffolk Co, MA.(43)

27. John6 Hawes (Elisha5, John4, Richard3, Obediah2, Richard1) (#950) was born in Canton, Suffolk Co, MA January 20, 1786.(48) John died in 1877 at 91 years of age.(49)

He married Eunice Withington January 19, 1809 in Canton, Norfolk Co, MA.(50) (Eunice Withington is #951.) Eunice was born 1790 in maybe, Canton, Suffolk Co, MA. Eunice died 1879 at 89 years of age.(51)

December 4, 1808 in Canton, Norfolk Co, MA John registered his intent to marry Eunice Withington.(52)

He married Hannah Henry October 24, 1813 in Canton, Suffolk Co, MA.(56) (Hannah Henry is #47.) Hannah was born March 1, 1792 in Canton, Suffolk Co, MA.(57) Hannah(58) was the daughter of Joseph Henry and Lydia Tower.

This does not resolve the puzzle of her parentage in favor of the Joseph and Lydia of Chester, since 1792 still conflicts with a birth in Oct 1791.
