1. James¹ Furnish was born in Orange Co, VA 14 May 1763.⁽¹⁾ James died 1830 at age 66.

He entered service 1 Sept 1780 under General Lafayette.⁽²⁾

James moved to Kentucky 1784.⁽³⁾ The Stray Book of Gallatin Co, KY records that James Furnish found a dark brown horse on fork of Eagle Creek on 28 Nov 1809. It's not clear whether all of the family came to Gallatin Co. this early, or if the first settler was James Sr. or Jr.⁽⁴⁾

1815 James was taxed on no land, among his sons in Capt. Lindsay's Company in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽⁵⁾ On the same tax list were James, Thomas and John Furnish with land on Eagle Creek.

James's estate was probated May 1830 in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽⁶⁾

James Furnish had the following children:

• + 2 i. James² Furnish was born circa 1785.

• 3 ii. John Furnish was born before 1795. 1815 John was taxed on 100 acres on Eagle Creek in Capt. Lindsay's Company in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽⁷⁾ On the same tax list were James Furnish Sr. without land, and James and Thomas Furnish with land on Eagle Creek.

  In July 1839 Capt. John Furnish was selected to be summoned as a juror at the October term of the Gallatin County Court.⁽⁸⁾

  He was appointed Mary Susan Marcum's guardian May 1841 in Bartholomew Co, IN.⁽⁹⁾

• 4 iii. Thomas Furnish was born before 1795. 1815 Thomas was taxed 483.5 acres on Eagle Creek in Capt. Lindsay's Company in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹⁰⁾ On the same tax list were James Furnish Sr. without land, and James and John Furnish with land on Eagle Creek.

  According to the Gallatin County Stray Book, on 3 Jan 1816 Thomas Furnish found a red and white steer three and a half miles from Sanders Mill on Eagle Creek.⁽¹¹⁾

  1 Dec 1827 the Gallatin Co, KY Stray Book records that a black steer was taken up Thomas Furnish living on the waters of Eagle Creek.⁽¹²⁾

• 5 iv. Joel Furnish was born before 1796. 1816 Joel was taxed in Capt. George Gullion's Compan in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹³⁾ On the same tax list were James Furnish Sr. and Jr. and John Furnish.

• 6 v. Benjamin Furnish was born before 1798. 1818 Benjamin was taxed in Capt. Hardin's Company in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹⁴⁾ On the same tax list were James Furnish Sr. and Jr. and John, Jeol, and Thomas Furnish.

• + 7 vi. Betsey Furnish was born BEF 1810.

2. James² Furnish (James¹) was born in Virginia circa 1785.

He married Nancy Goins 1 Oct 1820 in Gallatin Co, KY. Nancy was born circa 1800 in Kentucky. Nancy was the daughter of Charles Goins.

1815 James was taxed on 233 acres on Eagle Creek in Capt. Lindsay's Company in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹⁵⁾ On the same tax list were James Furnish Sr. without land, and Thomas and John Furnish with land on Eagle Creek.

James was the executor of James Furnish's estate May 1830 in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹⁶⁾ In the Census of 1850, James was listed as a head of household in Gallatin Co, KY.⁽¹⁷⁾

James Furnish and Nancy Goins had the following children:

• 8 i. James³ Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1820.

• 9 ii. Noah Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1826.

• 10 iii. Samuel Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1828.

• 11 iv. Henry Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1836.

• 12 v. Elza Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1837.

• 13 vi. Lucy Furnish was born in Gallatin Co, KY circa 1840.

7. Betsey² Furnish (James¹) was born BEF 1810.

She married Arthur Marcum after 26 Aug 1823 in Gallatin Co, KY. Arthur was born before 1800. Arthur died circa 1839 in probably, Bartholomew Co, IN, at age unknown.

Betsey Furnish and Arthur Marcum had the following child:

• 14 i. Mary Susan³ Marcum was born BEF 1830. She was listed as John Furnish's ward May 1841 in Bartholomew Co, IN.⁽¹⁸⁾
