Butner, Hughes, Roberts, Robinson, Tyree
1. Ancestor of early1 Butner residents of Kentucky, son of Adam
Butner and Mrs._Adam (Butner), (#829) was born in maybe, Maryland circa 1745. See his father's
family for more information.
This is a convenience to stand for the father of those Butners who went to Kentucky. He may be one or more of
James, Jesse, Isaac, or Peter, or he could be the Adam given as his son, noting that the Adam of the 1755 generation was either skipped or
undetected.
Ancestor of early Butner residents of Kentucky had the following children:
-

Hopkins Co. KY Tax Lists in 1809 - 1812. The only other Butner known to reside in Christian Co., or even in Western KY, in 1809 is Edward.
Isaac was taxed in 1805, but returned to Madison Co. in 1806. If he deceased, she might have gone to older brother.

2. Adam2 Butner of Kentucky (Ancestor of early1) (#2606) was born in probably, Rowan Co, NC circa 1770.
Adam died circa 1830 in Madison Co, KY.
He married Keziah Pinkston circa 1795.(5) (Keziah Pinkston is #2607.) Keziah was born circa 1775 in probably, North Carolina.
Keziah(6) was the daughter of Edward Pinkston and Rachel
(Pinkston). In the 1830 Census, Keziah was listed as a head of household in Madison Co, KY.(7) She was in her 30s, with a boy and a girl age 10-14 and a boy 5-9.
Kiziah Butner in the 1830 Madison Co. KY census claimed to be age 30-39. The wife of Adam in the 1810 census was
then age 26-44. Either Keziah was celebrating her 39th birthday often, or Adam had two wives, or the 1830 decedent Adam was Adam Jr.
Keziah was granted dower of 1/4 to 1/3 of Adam Butner's land 28 Oct 1830; a map is on p.103 of Will Book vol.E.
29 July 1800 Adam's name was on a tax roll in Pulaski Co, KY. In the 1810 Census, Adam was listed as a head of household

i.
Adam3 Butner Jr. of Kentucky (#2686) was born in Madison Co, KY circa
1799. Presumed to be the eldest son, the boy age 10-14 in 1810 census. Madison County Court Order Book F p.219, Feb 1, 1830, notes petition

Dicy Butner (#2623) was born in maybe, Madison Co, KY circa 1800. She married
NotNathan Roberts September 15, 1822 in Madison Co, KY.(9)

Butner shows 3 girls age 0-9.
-

KY, at 21 years of age. Madison Co, KY Court Order Book F p.232-3 records Meshack Butner, orphan of Adam, choosing William Butner as
his guardian, being over 14, Apr 5, 1830. Will Book F p.79 has inventory of his estate; p.109 has adm. settlement, Dicy and Viney Roberts
are each one of his several unnamed heirs.

Talitha Butner (#2687) was born in Madison Co, KY before 1816. She married
Thomas Pullum April 28, 1831 in Madison Co, KY.(10)
(Thomas Pullum is #2688.) Thomas was born circa 1810. Madison Co, KY Court Order Book F p.232 records Filatha Butner, orphan of
Adam, choosing William Butner as her guardian, she being aged over 14.
3. Edward2 Butner (Ancestor of
early1) (#2618) was born in probably, Rowan Co, NC circa 1783.(11) Edward died 1834 in Madison Co, KY, at 51 years of age.
He married Nancy Arnette June 22, 1818 in Madison Co, KY.(12) (Nancy Arnette is #2619.) Nancy was born circa 1798 in North Carolina. She had
marriage banns published June 22, 1818 in Madison Co, KY.(13)
In the 1840 Census, Nancy was listed as a head of household in Sullivan Co, IN.(14) She was in her 40s, with a man and woman in their 20s, a girl 15-19, two girls 10-14, and a boy and two
girls 5-9. One person was engaged in agriculture. The girls match the 1830 census and the will. The male age 20 may be Bluford Arnett.
15 Sept 1850 in the Census of 1850, Nancy was listed as a head of household with real estate of $200 in Turman Twp, Sullivan Co,
IN.(15)
The evidence that Nancy
Butner of Sullivan County, Indiana, is the widow of Edward Butner is strong: the 1840 Indiana census ages of daughters match the 1830
Kentucky census and the will; in the 1850 Indiana census she resides next to Bluford Arnett and his wife Jennett, she of appropriate age to
match Ginnetta of the will. The only loose ends are the boys, one age 5-9 in each of the 1830 and 1840 censuses. He of 1830 was not in the
will; he of 1840 might be Edward's posthumous child.
Edward had marriage banns to an unknown person published June 22, 1818 in Madison Co, KY.(16) In the 1830 Census, Edward was listed as a head of household engaged in
agriculture in Jessamine Co, KY.(17) He was age 26-44, with a
woman 16-25 and no children.
In the 1830 Census, Edward was listed as a head of household in Jessamine Co, KY.(18) He was in his 30s, with another man in his 30s, a woman in her 30s, a girl 10-14, a boy and two girls
5-9, and two girls under age 5.
Edward Butner wrote his will 11 June 1834 in Madison Co, KY.(19) He left all "to my wife Nancy; at her death to be divided among my children namely Rebecah Ginnetta,
Elizabeth, Nancy Kesiah, Louisa and Viny Butner."
Edward's estate was probated 6 Oct 1834 in Madison Co, KY.(20)
Madison Co. KY Will Book F p.27 has will dated 11 June 1834, prob. 6 Oct 1834.
Leaves all to wife Nancy; at her death to be divided among my children namely Rebecah Ginnetta, Elizabeth, Nancy Kesiah, Louisa and Viny
Butner. Exr:Squire Million. Wit:Turner & James Pinkston. (Are there 7 daughters, or 5?)

9. Son of Kentucky Ancestor2 Butner (Ancestor of early1) (#9302) was born probably before 1797.
This is a collector for unconnected Kentucky Butners of the next generation.
See also William Butner of Tennessee, who was born in Kentucky about 1815.
Son of Kentucky Ancestor Butner had the following children:
12. Vina3 Butner (Adam2, Ancestor of early1)(21) (#2625) was born in maybe, Madison Co, KY circa 1801.(22)
She married Nathan Roberts February 12, 1824 in Madison Co, KY.(23) (Nathan Roberts is #2624.) Nathan was born circa 1800 in maybe, Madison Co,
KY. Nathan died 1834 in Madison Co, KY, at 34 years of age. Nathan had marriage banns to an unknown person
published February 9, 1824 in Madison Co, KY.(24) An inventory
of Nathan's estate was taken 31 Dec 1834 in Madison Co, KY.(25)

in Madison Co, KY.(27) 30 Oct 1850 Vina was listed as a
neighbor of William Butner in the Census of 1850 in Madison Co, KY.(28) 13 June 1860 in the Census of 1860, Vina was listed as a head of household with real estate of

13. William3 Butner (Adam2, Ancestor of early1) (#2656) was born in
Madison Co, KY February 10, 1802.(31) The parents of this man
are guessed because he named his children Adam & Kizziah. William died February 1860 in Madison Co, KY, at 58 years of
age.(32)
He married twice. He married Nancy Lowery February 15, 1821 in Madison Co, KY.(33) (Nancy Lowery is #2811.) Nancy was born circa 1800 in maybe, Madison Co,
KY. Nancy died before 1845 in maybe, Madison Co, KY. The date of this marriage matches the 1830 census record with 2
children 5-9 and 2 ch. 0-4 for the William Butner who is not Sr. or Jr. Against the connection of this marriage with the son of Adam and the
1846 mar. to Foster are the lack of any other mention of this family, and the naming of the Foster children, Adam & Keziah, although the
latter could be renamings if the first family perished in an epidemic or accident (or war).
He married Catherine (Jane) Foster March 24, 1846 in Madison Co, KY.(34) (Catherine (Jane) Foster is #2657.) Catherine was born circa 1829 in Madison
Co, KY. 13 June 1860 in the Census of 1860, Catherine was listed as a head of household in Madison Co, KY.(35)
It's a stretch to suggest that Catherine,
bride of William, has metamorphosed into Jane, widow of Whatsisname, son of Adam Butner. However, no marriage of another Butner to Jane
Foster is recorded, and Kizziah's age is right for the marriage date. Could it be that Jane is a second wife from Missouri, keeping John
Foster's grandchildren Kizziah and Adam?
William had marriage banns to Nancy Lowery published February 10, 1821 in Madison Co, KY.(36) In the 1830 Census, William was listed as a head of household in Madison Co,
KY.(37) He and his wife were in their 20s, with two boys age
5-9 and two girls under age 5.
30 Oct 1850 in the Census of 1850, William was listed as a head of household working as a stone mason in Madison Co, KY.(38) At the time of his death his occupation was recorded in the
census mortality schedule as a shoemaker in Madison Co, KY.
