1. Herman (Harmon)1 Butner,(1) son of Adam Butner and Mrs._Adam (Butner), was born in maybe, Maryland circa 1738. See his father's family for more information. Herman died 1797 in North Carolina, at age 59.
He married Jemima Smith Merrill February 28, 1775 in Rowan Co, NC.(2) Jemima was born circa 1745. Jemima was the daughter of Andrew Smith. Jemima died in
North Carolina, at age unknown. Herman Butner represented the Baptists as trustee of the Jersey Meeting house when the bldg was acquired in
a deed of 1775. Jemima Merrill was a devout Baptist, as was her first husband.
In 1759, during the French and
Indian War, he served as a private in Captain Aventon Phelps' Scouts, which had been ordered by Colonel George Smith to range the frontier.
In 1765, he bought 220 acres in Rowan County.
His will, dated May 11, 1795, mentioned his nephew David Butner, son
of Adam Butner deceased, and his grandson, Herman Walton. His daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Benjamin Walton, were named executors.

She married Benjamin Walton January 16, 1794 in Rowan Co, NC. Benjamin was born circa 1770. Benjamin
was the son of Richard Walton. Benjamin died at age unknown.
Martha Butner and Benjamin Walton had the following child:
