I've written an article about Early Barretts who were in Henry Co. VA and Buncombe Co. NC, giving background information about the family before 1800.
My ggg-grandfather was William Barrett, who was in Buncombe County, North Carolina, before 1800. Around 1850, he and his family moved to Kentucky, moving through Clay and Breathitt counties befor settling in Laurel County. I've put up here some reports on William Barrett's Descendants, with separate reports for his children.
A number of other Barrett came through or settled in Buncombe County around the beginning of the 1800s, including John Barrett from Henry County, Virginia. There's a combined report on these other early Barretts from Virginia to Buncombe County.
Some confusion arises between John Barrett who came to Buncombe County, Virginia, and another man of the same name who remained in Henry County. I've put up a page about the latter and his father, John Barrott of Henry County, Virginia.
To sort out some more confusion amont the Barretts of Clay County, Kentucky, I've put up a page about Some Barretts from Tennessee to Kentucky.
I've prepared a combined index of all these reports by copying the indexes from the end of each report into a single page. There's also a list of surnames that link into the index file. Once you find a name in the index, the link will pop you right to him in his page.
If you find something interesting here, please let me know, and I'll send you email whenever I change anything in that line. And I'll be happy to receive reports of any errors you may find.
visitors have come to my Barrett page since July 12, 1999.
