In the 1830 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Buncombe Co, NC.⁽³⁾ He and his wife were in their 20s, with a girl under age 5.

25 Sep 1850 in the Census of 1850, Thomas was listed as a farmer and head of household in Buncombe Co, NC.⁽⁴⁾ 25 Sept 1850 Thomas was listed as a neighbor of Isaac Rice in the Census of 1850 in Buncombe Co, NC.⁽⁵⁾

It appears that his family was in Madison Co. NC by 1853. His last child was born around 1855, when his wife was in her forties. Sometime before 1870 she was widowed.

She married Isaac Rice between 9 Nov 1849 and 25 Sept 1850 in probably, Buncombe Co, NC.⁽¹³⁾ (Isaac Rice is #9314.) Isaac was born circa 1828 in North Carolina.⁽¹⁴⁾ Isaac was the son of Isaac Rice and Nancy Keith. She married Benjamin Franklin Gilbert 31 May 1853 in Madison Co, NC. (Benjamin Franklin Gilbert is #4596.) Benjamin was born circa 1815 in South Carolina. Benjamin was the son of William Isaiah Gilbert and Cassa Ann Woody. Benjamin died May 28, 1891 in Walnut, Madison Co, NC, at 75 years of age.⁽³³⁾

He married Nancy (Arrowood) circa 1868 in probably, Madison Co, NC. (Nancy (Arrowood) is #4595.)

He served on the Union side during the Civil War, in Company B of the 2nd North Carolina Mounted Infantry Regiment.
