1. Thomas1 Arrowood, son of James William Arrowood and Sarah Bryan, (#238) was born in North Carolina circa 1804.(1) See his father's family for more information.

He married Sarah (Sally) (Arrowood) circa 1828. (Sarah (Sally) (Arrowood) is #239.) Sarah was born circa 1812 in North Carolina. 21 June 1870 in the Census of 1870, Sarah was listed as a head of household in Madison Co, NC.(2)

In the 1830 Census, Thomas was listed as a head of household in Buncombe Co, NC.(3) He and his wife were in their 20s, with a girl under age 5.

25 Sep 1850 in the Census of 1850, Thomas was listed as a farmer and head of household in Buncombe Co, NC.(4) 25 Sept 1850 Thomas was listed as a neighbor of Isaac Rice in the Census of 1850 in Buncombe Co, NC.(5)

It appears that his family was in Madison Co. NC by 1853. His last child was born around 1855, when his wife was in her forties. Sometime before 1870 she was widowed.

2. Rachel E.2 Arrowood (Thomas1) (#9311) was born in Buncombe Co, NC circa 1829.(12)

She married Isaac Rice between 9 Nov 1849 and 25 Sept 1850 in probably, Buncombe Co, NC.(13) (Isaac Rice is #9314.) Isaac was born circa 1828 in North Carolina.(14) Isaac was the son of Isaac Rice and Nancy Keith. Isaac died Sept 1898 at 70 years of age.(15) His remains were interred in Greene Co, TN.(16) Conflicting evidence states that Isaac was born Feb 1832 in North Carolina, or Tennessee.(17) In 1840 the US Census probably enumerates Isaac at 12 years of age as a resident in the household of Isaac Rice in Yancey Co, NC.(18) 26 Sept 1850 in the Census of 1850, Isaac was listed as a laborer and head of household in Buncombe Co, NC.(19) 25 Sep 1850 Isaac was listed as a neighbor of Thomas Arrowood in the Census of 1850 in Buncombe Co, NC.(20) 8 Nov 1850 in the Census of 1850, Isaac was listed as a laborer and head of household married within the year in Buncombe Co, NC.(21) 17 June 1870 in the Census of 1870, Isaac was listed as a farmer and head of household with real estate of $200 in Marshall, Madison Co, NC.(22) 27 June 1880 Isaac was listed in the 1880 Census as a head of household farming in Madison Co, NC.(23)

Rachel E. Arrowood and Isaac Rice had the following children:

3. Edith2 Arrowood (Thomas1) (#1829) was born in Buncombe Co, NC circa 1835.

She married Thomas Shepherd Rice 17 Jun 1853 in Madison Co, NC. (Thomas Shepherd Rice is #4593.) Thomas was born circa 1836 in North Carolina. Thomas(24) was the son of Isaac Rice and Nancy Keith. In 1840 the US Census probably enumerates Thomas at 4 years of age as a resident in the household of Isaac Rice in Yancey Co, NC.(25) 27 Aug 1860 in the Census of 1860, Thomas was listed as a farmer and head of household with personal estate of $50 in Madison Co, NC.(26) 14 June 1880 Thomas was listed in the 1880 Census as a head of household farming in Madison Co, NC.(27)

Edith Arrowood and Thomas Shepherd Rice had the following children:

5. Sarah A.2 Arrowood (Thomas1) (#236) was born in Buncombe Co, NC October 29, 1838.(31) Sarah died December 24, 1913 at 75 years of age.(32)

She married Benjamin Franklin Gilbert 31 May 1853 in Madison Co, NC. (Benjamin Franklin Gilbert is #4596.) Benjamin was born circa 1815 in South Carolina. Benjamin was the son of William Isaiah Gilbert and Cassa Ann Woody. Benjamin died May 28, 1891 in Walnut, Madison Co, NC, at 75 years of age.(33)

Sarah A. Arrowood and Benjamin Franklin Gilbert had the following children:

8. Edmund2 Arrowood (Thomas1) (#777) was born in Buncombe Co, NC circa 1846. His remains were interred at Station Cemetery in Marshall, Madison Co, NC.(35)

He married Nancy (Arrowood) circa 1868 in probably, Madison Co, NC. (Nancy (Arrowood) is #4595.)

He served on the Union side during the Civil War, in Company B of the 2nd North Carolina Mounted Infantry Regiment.

17 June 1870 in the Census of 1870, Edmund was listed as a head of household in Madison Co, NC.(36)

13. Jackson M.3 Rice (Rachel E.2 Arrowood, Thomas1) (#9318) was born in North Carolina circa 1858.(37)

He married Susanah (Rice). (Susanah (Rice) is #9321.) Susanah was born circa 1856 in North Carolina.

27 June 1880 Jackson was listed in the 1880 Census as a head of household farming in Madison Co, NC.(38) Jackson was listed as Isaac Rice's neighbor in the 1880 Census in Madison Co, NC.(39)

16. Mitchell3 Rice (Edith2 Arrowood, Thomas1) (#9315) was born in Madison Co, NC circa 1855.

He married Elizabeth (Rice). (Elizabeth (Rice) is #9324.) Elizabeth was born circa 1861 in North Carolina.
