  He is probably the John Arrowood who resided in Cherokee County, and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting there, for the duration of the war, at age 21 on July 10, 1862, in Company A of the 39th Regiment of North Carolina Troops. The cause of his death at Loudon, Tennessee, on December 5, 1862, was not reported.

He married twice. He married Cornelia Cherokee Powell 13 Feb 1870 in Cherokee Co, NC.⁽¹⁷⁾ Cornelia was born circa 1840 in Cherokee Co, NC. Cornelia⁽¹⁸⁾ was the daughter of John A. Powell and Mary (Powell). He married Myrtle Josephine Tackett November 11, 1900 in Vinita, Craig Co, OK.⁽¹⁹⁾ Myrtle was born. Myrtle died at age unknown.

In the 1880 Census, James was listed as a head of household 22 June 1880 in Cherokee Co, NC.⁽²⁰⁾

James A. Arrowood and Cornelia Cherokee Powell had the following children:

• 23 i. Ella³ Arrowood was born in probably, Cherokee Co, NC circa 1871. Ella died at age unknown. She is listed, age 10, as a NC Cherokee who removed to the Cherokee Nation, listed Oct. 22, 1881 in the Timmons' Supplement. She is not found with James Arrowood's family in the 1880 census. It's possible that she is the Elizabeth, age 1, found in the 1870 census with Lafayette Arrowood (and James).

• 25 iii. Fred Arrowood was born in Cherokee Co, NC circa 1876. Fred died at age unknown.

• 26 iv. Osa Arrowood was born in Cherokee Co, NC circa 1878. Osa died at age unknown.

• 27 v. Leona Minnie Arrowood was born in Cherokee Co, NC January 1880. Leona died at age unknown.
