Obituary of Drewry McSwain Arrowood

MONTFORD'S COVE

Union Mills, R-1, Dec. 1

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26, at Antioch M. E. church at one o'clock for D. M. Arrowood, who died at the home of his son, Mr. J. M. Arrowood (Jethro Mac Arrowood) on Tuesday at 12 o'clock.

Mr. Arrowood had a stroke of paralysis on Sunday morning just after eating breakfast, he was sitting by the fire about 8 o'clock. He never spoke nor regained consciousness after he had the stroke. The Rev. W. R. White was in charge of the funeral service.

Mr. D. M. Arrowood was born December 19, 1845, and died November 25, 1930, aged 84 years, 11 months and 6 days. He married Miss Polly Parker Hall in 1865 and to this union nine children were born, two preceeded him to the grave, and Mrs. Arrowood died three years ago; also a step-son, the late Walker Hall. He was survived by two sons and five daughters, also a step-daughter; Mrs H. C. Rhodes, of this section. The two sons, Messrs. Berry and Mack Arrowood, both of this route; daughters are Mrs. Matt Hill (Malinda), of Cliffside; Mrs. Elijah Frady (Nettie), of Uree; Mrs. Joe Helms (Frances), of Union Mills; Mrs Robert Hill (Lilly), of Green Hill section, and Mrs. Bill Hill (Annie Mae), of this route; also 98 grandchildren, 113 great-grandchildren and three Great-great-grandchildren. He leaves to morn his loss, also two brothers and two sisters. He joined the Antioch M. E. church at an early age and was a member at the time of his death. After the death of Mrs. Arrowood, he made his home with his children.

The pall bearers were his grandsons, Messrs. Clarence Arrowood, Claude Arrowood, Daniel Hill, Merle Arrowood, Wilson Hill, Sam Arrowood, Gaither Hill and Gladdon Hill. The flowers were carried by six of his grand-daughters, Misses Virdia Mae Arrowood, Clara Rhodes, Mollie Arrowood, Sophia Rhodes, Meldonia Arrowood and Mary Arrowood. His sudden death was a shock to the entire community. He will be greatly missed. The bereaved ones have our heartfelt sympathy.
