The author has observed that most of the earliest Alexanders in this state appear to have emigrated from Scotland or Ireland, rather than from another American colony.

The name of the father of Rev War soldier Thomas Alexander is unknown, nor is it known if he came to America with his son. Thomas's pension application mentions an uncle William living in Shippensburg.

The three sons of this unnamed father are known to be brothers from the pension application of William Alexander.

Whether this man, or any of his other children, was ever actually in Pennsylvania is not known. It is only known that William enlisted in Carlisle and was married after the war in Fayette County.

He married Rebecca (Alexander). (Rebecca (Alexander) is #10507.) Rebecca died before October 21, 1769. In John Alexander's will written September 15, 1766 in Abington, Philadelphia Co, PA, Rebecca was named as his wife and executrix.(49) Rebecca (Alexander), widow of John, wrote her will September 17, 1769 in Abington, Philadelphia Co, PA.(50) Rebecca's estate was probated October 21, 1769 in Philadelphia Co, PA.(51)

John Alexander, weaver, wrote his will September 15, 1766 in Abington, Philadelphia Co, PA.(52) John's estate was probated October 12, 1769 in Philadelphia Co, PA.(53)

John Alexander and Rebecca (Alexander) had the following children:

He married twice. He married Mary Barr maybe around 1780.(79) (Mary Barr is #10014.) Mary was born about 1752 (if same age as spouse). Mary died before 1790. He married Sally King about 1790 in Tennessee.(80) (Sally King is #10015.) Sally was born maybe around 1760. Sally died before 1829.(81)

Thomas immigrated to America in 1772.(82) Thomas enlisted for Revolutionary War service in the Pennsylvania Line in Lancaster Co, PA.(83) During the Revolution, he served in the Pennsylvania Line.(84)
