The author
believes that this may be Mary Trotter, who was called daughter Mary Alexander in the 1794 will of her
father John Trotter of Scott County, Kentucky, and in the 1822 will of her mother Agnes Trotter of Jefferson County, Indiana. Note that
James Alexander has children named John, Agnes, and Polly (Mary), as well as Joseph, which is the name of Mary Trotter's brother.
If indeed his wife was Mary Trotter, James may have been one of those several of his name who appear on the 1790 tax roll of Fayette County,
Kentucky, where Mary's presumed grandfather James was listed. Scott County, where Mary's father John died, was formed from an offshoot of
Fayette County. See Some Unconnected Kentucky Alexanders for more information.
December 21, 1813 James entered in the tract book 160 acres of SE qtr of Sec 24 of Twp 5 N Range 9 E in Lancaster Twp, Jefferson Co,

He may have been associated with James Alexander who also was listed in the 1830 Census in Lancaster Twp, Jefferson Co,

and saddle, and named son Joseph. He left a horse to daughter Nancy, and named daughters Polly Hopper, Nancy Boon, and Agnes Butner, and
granddaughter Agnes Butner. His executors were John Burns, Sr., Robert Williams, and Jonathan Hill.

Martisha died 1925 in Norcatur, KS, at 75 years of age.
She married Sterling Tucker Barrett November 13, 1873 in Bartholomew Co, IN.(104) (Sterling Tucker Barrett is #14.) Sterling was born January 1847 in
probably, Yancey Co, NC. See his father's family for more information. Sterling was the son of
John Barrett and Malinda Arrowood.
Sterling died 1943 in Bartholomew Co, IN, at 96 years of age. A family tradition says he drove a commissary wagon in the Civil
War, and that six of his brothers also served in the war. The records of two of them, and of a brother in law, have been identified, on the
Union side.
1880 Sterling was listed in the 1880 Census as a head of household in Bartholomew Co, IN.(105) 1885 Sterling was taxed for one cow and no horse and 100 acres of land valued
at $200 in Laurel Co, KY.(106) 1900 Sterling was
listed in the 1900 Census as a head of household in Jennings Co, IN.(107) He was renting a farm there.
In the early 1900s he was living near his
daughter, Lessie, near Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. In the early 1920s, he was again near Lessie outside of Paoli, Colorado. By 1925, he had
settled near his son Angus around Norcatur, Kansas; it was there that Martisha died and was buried. He ended his days with his daughter
Linnie, in Bartholomew County, Indiana.
Martisha Ann Waddle and Sterling Tucker Barrett had the following children:

i.
Melessa (Lessie) Belle5 Barrett (#7) was born in Bartholomew Co, IN September
8, 1874. Her given name may come as something of a surprise to those who only knew her as Lessie, but the 1880 census of her father's
family shows her named "Malessa." Lessie died July 19, 1965 in Friend, Saline Co, NE, at 90 years of age. She married William Sherman Marcum October 20, 1892 in Bartholomew Co, IN. (William Sherman Marcum is
#6.) W. S. was born October 7, 1869 in Bartholomew Co, IN. W. S. was the son of John Marcum and Amelia (Milley)
M. O'Neal. W. S. died December 23, 1955 in Friend, Saline Co, NE, at 86 years of age. 13 June 1900 W. S. was listed in
the 1900 Census as a head of household working as a farm laborer in Seward Co, NE.(108) 25 April 1910 W. S. was listed in the 1910 Census as a head of household renting a farm in
Beaver Crossing, Seward Co, NE.(109) His son Sherman, in an
autobigraphical sketch, described W. S. as "a strong 190 lb., six foot father." He related that they moved to Foraker, Oklahoma in
January, 1913, and back to Nebraska in May. While farming a few miles west of the town of Friend, the family acquired its first automobile -
a red Buick with no top. Bessie recalled that her mother used to dress in full driving regalia - a smart cap, tied on with a scarf, and a
full duster coat. W.S. never learned to drive - Loyd was the chauffeur.
After the world war, the family moved to Colorado. A letter from his mother-in-law, Martisha Barrett, Feb. 11, 1923, said he was living in
Haxtun, Colorado. After five years in Colorado, the family returned to Nebraska, and shortly thereafter moved to Carthage, Missouri, which
Sherman said "was my dad's birthplace." From the middle of the 1930s, he spent the remainder of his life in Friend, Nebraska.

two times, presently for nine years. The family was living in a rented house in Beaver Township, in York County, Nebraska, in 1910. In 1920,
they were residing on a farm in West Blue Township.

children's names are unknown. Otherwise, there is no evidence to connect this marriage to Isaac's Martha.
