He married Sarah E. Lipe. (Sarah E. Lipe is #3035.) Sarah was born 13 Sept 1837 in Hawkins Co, TN.(35) (Additional notes for Sarah E. Lipe(36)) Sarah died 13 June 1917 in Bloomington, McLean Co, IL, at 79 years of age.(37) Sarah was buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington, McLean Co, IL.(38)

1860 in the Census of 1860, George was listed as a head of household in Hawkins Co, TN.(39) 10 Nov 1862 he was mustered into the Confederate Army as a private in Company B of the 61st Tennessee Mounted Infantry Regiment. He was captured at Black River, MS 7 May 1863 and sent to Memphis 25 May. He was held at Ft. Delaware, MD and City Point, VA until he was exchanged in July 1863.(40)

George N. Alvis and Sarah E. Lipe had the following children:

He married Mary P. (Alvis). (Mary P. (Alvis) is #3050.) Mary was born circa 1830 in Tennessee.

She married twice. She married Pleasant Helton. (Pleasant Helton is #804.) Pleasant was born circa 1843 in Hawkins Co, TN. Pleasant(50) was the son of Pleasant Helton and Elizabeth Neighbors. Pleasant died circa 1897.(51) Pleasant was buried at Jim Alvis Cemetery in Hawkins Co, TN.(52)

He served in Company K of the 13th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment during the Civil War. In 1884, he filed for an invalid's pension. In 1897, his widow, Susan, applied for a widow's pension.

She married Mr. Absher. (Mr. Absher is #941.)

Susanette Alvis and Mr. Absher had the following children:

36. Eliza A.3 Alvis (Unidentified2, Charles Dabney1) (#944) was born in Tennessee August 1854.

She married George P. Helton. (George P. Helton is #806.) George was born June 1854 in Hawkins Co, TN. George was the son of Pleasant Helton and Elizabeth Neighbors.

Franklin Moses4 Alvis (George N.3, William Anderson2, Charles Dabney1) (#3049) was born in Hawkins Co, TN 6 March 1859.(55) Franklin died 27 Feb 1947 in DuQuoin, Perry Co, IL, at 87 years of age.(56) Franklin was buried 22 July 1947 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Section F, Lot 29 in DuQuoin, Perry Co, IL.(57)

He married Matilda Helton. (Matilda Helton is #1191.) Matilda was born 11 March 1859 in Hawkins Co, TN.(58) Matilda was the daughter of Pleasant Helton and Elizabeth Neighbors. Matilda died of enlargement of liver 21 July 1902 in DuQuoin, Perry Co, IL, at 43 years of age. Conflicting evidence states that Matilda was born circa 1861 in Tennessee.(59) Conflicting evidendence states that Matilda was born in Feb or March 1862.(60)
