Fermanagh, Ireland.(81) In deed 595.7.404114 of 30 Sep 1807, he granted in trust for his second son Robert one moiety or half of the lands of Dunmuckram Stewart and Dunmuckrum Delap, with Geo. Henderson and John Allingham as trustees. The same deed 404114 mentions that Robert the elder's wife Mary should be maintained if she survived him.

Sligo, Ireland in 1824.(162) The Tithe Applotment List of 1824 showed Francis Allingham with three acres in the Townland of Callragh in St. John's Parish, Sligo, Co. Sligo, Ireland. A directory of 1839 listed Francis Allingham as a cooper at 34 Knox's Street in Sligo, Co. Sligo, Ireland.(163) He was the only Allingham listed in Sligo.

In 1842 and 1845 Francis's name was on a tax roll of the Borough Valuation on Knox St. in Sligo, Co. Sligo, Ireland.(164)

Conflicting evidence states that William was born December 28, 1789.(229) William signed a marriage contract with Margaret Crawford January 21, 1823.(230) Deed 779.82.527417 of 21 Jan 1823 is marriage articles between this William Allingham and Catherine Crawford of 1000 pds. secured by two leases in Ballyshannon. James Crawford & John Allingham are trustees. His father John, deceased, and brother Edward are mentioned.

Dec 31, 1836 in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland a letter of gratitude to Col. Conolly M.P signed by William Allingham was published in The Ballyshannon Herald.(231) On 14 August 1859 William presented a Bible to his wife, Isabella. A transcription of the family pages is online.(232)

"His business was that of a merchant - a wide designation, and in his case applicable enough; he imported timber, slates, coal and iron, and owned at various times five or six ships, trading chiefly to Canada and the Baltic for timber. There were no exports, save now and again of human beings to Quebec."(233)

So wrote William's son and namesake, the poet, in his diary. He went on to say, in the time of his childhood, "My father had [a small farm two miles out of town] on lease, and also a large field near the town, called 'The Big Meadow,' in which grazing was let to some neighbours' milch cows along with our own; but he was not a farmer, and his agricultural produce went mainly to supply his own family and my grandmother's, the surplus being sold."

A manuscript at PRONI says, "Edward Allingham of Bow Island in Lough Erne rebuilt and added to the Willybrook House."(276)

The manuscript continues, "Edward Allingham named above was very well off. Whatever they got at Portnason he got the same. They had fine furniture and appointments and used to give large dinner parties and Mrs. Allingham (Miss Johnston as above) was very particular that her guests do her credit, and be well dressed."
